Ludhiana: The police arrested a resident of Gurbachan Colony, Lohara, for making indecent overtures towards his minor stepdaughter. Pooja Sharma told the police that she is the second wife of the accused, Pawan Kumar. She has a daughter (17) from her first marriage. She alleged that my husband used to make indecent overtures towards her daughter. When I objected, the accused thrashed me and my daughter, she said. The police have registered a case under Sections 354-C/506, IPC, and Section 12 of the POCSO Act. TNS
One held on rape charge
Ludhiana: The police arrested, Vivek Kumar, a resident of Ekta Colony, Bajra Road, under Sections 376-A/B of the IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act for allegedly raping a mentally-challenged girl (10) living in the neighbourhood. The complainant, mother of the victim, said her daughter complained of abdominal pain yesterday. I took her to a doctor, who said that she has been sexually assaulted, the mother alleged. TnS
7 booked in suicide case
Ludhiana: In a two-year-old case of alleged suicide of Raju Gupta (45), who was a resident of Kabir Nagar, Giaspura, the police have booked seven persons under Sections 306, 506 and 34 of the IPC. The case had been reopened on the complaint of Amit Kumar, who alleged that his brother Raju had some financial dealings with the accused and Raju had taken the extreme step due to harassment by his creditors. He also produced a suicide note and report from the Government Forensic Laboratory, Mohali. OC
Four nabbed with drugs
Ludhiana: The police have arrested four persons with drugs from different places in the city on Thursday. Sunny, a resident of Kailash Nagar, was nabbed with 50 gm of heroin, Rs 1 lakh drug money and a motorcycle; Anil Kumar of Pathan Chakk village was held with 1.8 kg of poppy husk; Paras Arora was arrested with 5.8 gm of charas and a Honda Activa scooter and Bhupinder Singh was held with 15 gm of heroin and a motorcycle. One booked for abducting minor
Ludhiana: The police have booked a migrant from Nepal, identified as Istakhar, a resident of Algi village in Nepal, for allegedly abducting a 16-year-old minor girl, residing in Ikbal Nagar on Tajpur Road, here. In a report lodged with the police, sister of the victim had said the accused had abducted her sister on the pretext of marrying her. OC
One booked for fraud
Ludhiana: The police have booked Anoop Singh, a resident of Deol Enclave, under Section 420 of the IPC for allegedly duping a person on the pretext of providing a government job to his wife.
