Rise of Hydra’s Marketing Needs a Well-Rounded Approach

Rise of Hydra’s Marketing Needs a Well-Rounded Approach

Highlights

  • Rise of Hydra is a thrilling game set in WWII, featuring Captain America and Black Panther working together in war-torn Paris.
  • Future trailers should focus on supporting characters like Gabriel Jones and Nanali for a well-rounded cast and story development.
  • Game promises a unique twist on Marvel characters, diversifying gameplay with grounded individuals amidst iconic superheroes.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is an exciting change of form for Marvel-based games. Setting a superhero game in the midst of World War 2 is a thrilling concept, and forcing Captain America and Black Panther to work together despite their suspicions is even better. The first trailer for Rise of Hydra promises a compelling war story filled with espionage, but future marketing for the game may want to put the spotlight on characters other than its iconic superheroes.

The story will focus on super soldier Steve Rogers and Azzuri, king of Wakanda, forming a tense alliance in front of the backdrop of war-torn Paris. With most of Marvel’s recent game adaptations taking place in modern times, it will be intriguing to see how developer Skydance New Media handles telling a superhero story in the midst of history’s worst war. There are high expectations for Rise of Hydra, and although it makes sense to focus on Rogers and Azzuri at the start, the next trailer should flesh out the game’s supporting characters.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra looks promising from what it’s shown thus far and yet it’s what hasn’t been shown yet that is most concerning.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra Should Do Gabriel Jones and Nanali Justice

Compelling Side Characters Who Deserve the Chance to Shine

It makes complete sense to feature Captain America and Black Panther front and center in the first trailer. However, the characters of Gabriel Jones and Nanali are fascinating in their own right. The two supporting roles are deep-cut characters that a significant portion of the game’s audience may not be aware of. They aren’t new characters made just for Rise of Hydra, as both Gabriel Jones and Nanali have been part of the Marvel canon for decades.

One of the most exciting aspects of Gabriel Jones being part of Rise of Hydra‘s story is that he’s a member of the Howling Commandos. The Howling Commandos were a special forces unit led by the one and only Nick Fury, and Gabriel Jones being connected to this group promises a compelling story for his character. Superheroes are incredibly interesting, but sometimes the stories of everyday individuals in otherworldly circumstances can be the most intriguing.

There has yet to be a confirmed release date for
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra
, but it is scheduled for sometime in 2025.

Nanali is known in Marvel Comics as a past queen of Wakanda, serving alongside Azzuri. It seems like Rise of Hydra aims to put an exciting twist on the character, as she will be a Wakandan spy. The clash between Captain America and Black Panther will likely extend to Gabriel Jones and Azzuri, and seeing a well-crafted dynamic among the four characters would really bring the game’s character development to new heights.

Demonstrating the Importance of All Characters

If Rise of Hydra wants to get audiences excited about the game as a whole, then every character should be well-marketed ahead of launch. Gabriel Jones has the potential to tell a more grounded and human side of World War 2, while Nanali’s role as a spy has the opportunity to showcase plenty of nail-biting moments. Rise of Hydra could feature many villains that each character has to deal with in their own unique ways, which could not only diversify the gameplay, but also make every character feel useful to the story.

Captain America and Black Panther have an iconic history with Marvel’s Hydra. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s hold over pop culture seems to be fading, video games may be the new home for Marvel Comics characters. With upcoming titles like Marvel’s Wolverine and EA’s Iron Man on the horizon, Rise of Hydra will have to set itself apart from the onslaught of planned Marvel projects. One of the best ways for the game to stand on its own is by emphasizing its grounded characters alongside superheroes, and Gabriel Jones and Nanali are the perfect ones to do so.
